Napoli’s January Transfer Window Priority: Defensive Reinforcement
As Napoli focuses solely on Serie A competition, manager Antonio Conte is prioritizing the acquisition of a defender in the January transfer window. This need stems from Alessandro Buongiorno’s vertebral fracture injury, which has sidelined him for approximately 45 days.
Italian media reports suggest Juventus defender Danilo is a prime target for Napoli. However, the Brazilian has expressed his intention to remain with Juventus until his contract expires in June. Another potential option is Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, though the English club is reluctant to agree to a loan deal with a purchase option.
Napoli’s transfer strategy may necessitate proposing either a permanent transfer or a loan with a mandatory purchase clause for Kiwior. Despite Napoli’s absence from European competitions and early exit from the Coppa Italia, Conte anticipates reinforcements both in January and during the summer window.
The club is also facing interest in some of its fringe players, such as Giovanni Simeone and Giacomo Raspadori, from other Serie A teams. Should one of these forwards depart, Napoli would likely seek a replacement striker as well.
Interestingly, Juventus has shown interest in Raspadori, potentially opening the door for a swap deal involving Danilo. This development could provide a solution to Napoli’s defensive requirements while addressing Juventus’s attacking needs.
